OUR EARTH – OUR RESPONSIBILITY

Wednesday, 22 April 2020 marks the 50th Earth Day, a timely reminder that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect our earth, for future generations.

We’ve all witnessed the effects of climate change, from the extreme weather conditions, such as the high windspeeds in the Bahamas last year, to the severe bushfires in Australia. We are also constantly reminded how global warming is causing water levels to rise (it is estimated that ice sheets four times the size of France melted in three years!)

Other pointers showing we must make change include the number of fish in the ocean that has halved since 1970 due to overfishing, climate change and pollution. It is also believed that 60% of animal life has been lost since the same year.

What these issues have in common is the cause. Humans. We believe, however, that if we caused it, we can fix it.

One of the most important conservation efforts is preserving our forests throughout the world. Forests clean the earth by breathing in carbon dioxide and breathing out oxygen. The science is simple, more forests, less global warming.

As our company has grown over the past 22 years, we’ve been more and more conscious of the many preventable environmental issues affecting our earth.

That’s why we do what we do, using reclaimed wood to make furniture that is sustainable and innovative, highlighted through exquisite craftsmanship. And in our efforts we’ve saved over 600,000 trees from being cut down.

But you can also do your part – it doesn’t matter if it is big or small – it all makes a difference.

We encourage you to conserve the environment by buying products that are ethically produced using recycled materials. Consider how you use electricity – could you use a more renewable option, like solar? Or do you preserve water? Think about where your waste goes and if you can reduce your contribution to landfill.

At PGT-Reclaimed every day is Earth Day, and sustainability has been at the forefront of our business ever since we decided to only use reclaimed wood in our lifestyle furniture. We understand that the earth needs both individuals and businesses to protect the natural resources for our future!

Drawing on some of the most significant events in our earth’s recent history, Ian J. Burden, PGT-Reclaimed founder, urges humans to change the way of doing things to save our earth and our future. Watch his Earth Day message herein:
